On the first page of the Locomobile catalogue for 1916 is the following statement:
The Locomobile Policy is to build not more than four cars a day in order to
attain the highest excellence in every essential and in every detail. Our aim is to
strive for a finer Locomobile year after year and to attain our progress through the
use of finer materials, finer workmanship, and greater painstaking and carefulness
in everything... The Locomobile is designed for those who are fully able to enjoy
the best and who are never satisfied with anything less. This conservative policy
led to a good, solid, but not advanced car. Yearly changes were few once the 48 h.p.
model shown in this picture became the standard Locomobile. The cars were very
heavy, and the resulting performance was modest at best. General John J. Pershing
chose the Locomobile for his staff limousines in France during World War I.
Builders: The Locomobile Company of America, Bridgeport, Conn.
