Le Baron Phaeton 8cyl. 45h.p. Model J Price new: ,750
The Duesenberg brothers started building racing engines before World War I and
introduced an eight-cylinder Model A Duesenberg passenger car in 1920. This was
an advanced car with the first American hydraulic four-wheel brakes. With the
introduction of the Model J at the New York Auto Salon on December 1, 1928, this
country had a car which captured the imagination of the entire world. Its engine
produced 265 developed h.p. for a top speed of 88 m.p.h. in second gear and 116
in high. Both overhead camshafts and valves were dual. Vibration was eliminated
by a special mercury-filled damper on the crankshaft. Celebrities all over the world
became Duesenberg owners: King Alfonso XIII of Spain, Joe E. Brown, C. V.
Whitney, Paul Whiteman, Gary Cooper, and Jimmy Walker. In its day, the Duesen-
berg was Americas most expensive and gratifying automotive plaything.
Builders: Duesenberg, Incorporated, Indianapolis, Ind.
