- 1972. 23" x 29.5". Color litho on cardboard.
Spectacular display with great pop art elements. Directing the viewer's eyes away from a crossed-out sketch of President Nixon to a smiling photograph of George McGovern, this poster by
renowned artist Larry Rivers
argued that America needed the 1972 Democratic presidential nominee to put the country's scattered pieces back together.
Using a wide range of visual techniques, including pencil sketches, stencil, photography, collage, varied lettering, and puzzle pieces, the artist gave the poster the informal, youthful, and almost rebellious tone that characterized aspects of McGovern's presidential bid and famous campaign against the Vietnam War.
This outstanding poster design has been exhibited at the
Smithsonian Institute
in Washington D.C. A historically significant display with outstanding eye appeal.
Condition is considered FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Moderate surface scuffing and corner creasing with misc. water staining, most evident on bottom 2" edge area. No tears or separations. Colors are still bold, bright and attractive.
Despite defects, we feel this is still a very displayable example by most standards (see photos).
