    This is part of 8 toys from a Hess toy collector's collection.  This is part of that lot.  Should you like all of the collection, let me know.
    The 1992 HESS 18 WHEELER AND RACER features a tractor trailer truck with loading ramp transporting a friction-powered race car, with several illuminated HESS logos. The race car is cleverly designed, utilizing a watch battery to operate the car lights.
    This toy looks to have been a display piece.  I don't believe that there were batteries ever in this truck until I tested it.  Look at the photos - the "chrome" has some issues - but the toy is in over all good - very good condition!

    1992 Hess 18 Wheeler and Racer
    was the twenty-third Hess toy truck in what became an American tradition.
    This truck had a production of 1,300,000 units. There are a number of firsts associated with this edition of the Hess toy truck. This is the first trailer which has windows on both sides of the truck located in the rear that allow you to see the race car inside.
    The racer is modeled after a
    Porsche
    and a friction-powered race car but with lights. For the first time the race car is equipped with its own lights controls by a switch on the bottom. It uses two watch batteries.
    This was so popular that it was reported to have sold out at stations within a few hours of going on sale. Another first is this edition is the second consecutive year a truck was accompanied with a race car. The inside of the trailer now has lights that shine on the racer as well as the head and tail lights, running lights and famous Hess logo light up too.
