Antique Vintage MAYFLOWER 1620 horse brass medallion w/leather back & buckle

This item came from a Michigan estate. This estate had a LOT of Scottish collectible items. It also had a lot of Christmas items which will be listed later.
Horse brasses were originally worn as charms or amulets to ward off evil and bring good luck, but they continued as festive decoration long after their original use had been forgotten. The brasses were fastened to various parts of the harness (face pieces, martingales or side pieces) as decoration or show.
Horse brasses feature a variety of images and are quite collectible.
This brass features an image of the Mayflower, it has a decorative scalloped edge. The brass medallion is fastened on a heavy black backing leather which is attached to a leather strap and buckle.
The brass itself measures 3" x 3 1/2" and the leather backing/strap measures 3 1/4" wide x approximately 7" long.
The strap has a "D" ring which slides up and acts as a place for a wall hook to attach.
Although generally in good condition; The brass has some discoloration and the leather strap has broken. For decorative purposes; it could probably be glued or a new strap could be made. The leather backing is quite stiff.
This item does not smell of smoke, mildew, must, mothballs or have pet odor.
