Offering in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT CONDITION...BERKELEY TRIBE
Volume 1, Issue 4, AUGUST 1-7, 1969
Published by the staff of the former Berkeley Barb. I
n July of 1969
almost all of the 40 person staff of the Berkeley Barb, including managing editor James A. Schreiber, walked out and formed the "Red Mountain Tribe." After putting out a
special BARB ON STRIKE interim issue
(which I am also currently selling on eBay, see my other auctions)
, they launched their own rival more radical and politically astute newspaper, the BERKELEY TRIBE, which by the Spring of 1970 claimed a circulation of 53,000 copies. This is the fourth issue of the Berkeley Tribe.
Own a piece of American history. This is a very rare 50 year old underground newspaper. Featuring a very cool Light Artists Guild two-color centerfold, stories about protests, the Vietnam War, President Nixon in Thailand, The Young Partisans revolutionary movement, the strike at Family Dog, White Panther Minister of Information and Manager of the punk metal group MC5 gets ten years in jail for possessing two joints, the Wild West Festival in Golden Gate Park, the Society for Krishna Consciousness annual "March To The Sea", six members of Los Siete de la Raza still held on murder charges without bail, Berkeley City Council member Ron Dellums Drop Out?
(who would many years later become the Mayor of Oakland)
and much more. Also some awesome ads including a Family Dog Grateful Dead concert and a showing of the Easy Rider movie.
20 pages total. Slight tanning consistent with a fifty year old newspaper
but still in great shape for its age. Just some slight edgewear and several tiny edge tears.
VERY HARD TO FIND!
