    Description

    PLEASE NOTE:
The pin in this listing is the very rare 1" inch variant design. As serious Panther collectors are aware most Panther pins were typically issued in two standard sizes 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" inches. Finding the smaller 1" inch variant pins is exceptionally rare.  In all of the years that we have dealt in Panther pinback buttons, this is only the third one we have ever seen. For other original black civil rights buttons and posters be certain to visit the Black Panther Party category of our ebay store.

    The Black Panther Party
(BPP) was a revolutionary socialist political organization founded by Marxist college students Bobby Seale (Chairman) and Huey Newton (Minister of Defense) in 1966 in Oakland, California. The party was active in the United States with chapters in numerous cities. The core mission of the group was to organize the African American community in order to prevent police abuse, combat racial discrimination and promote the health and well being of the black population. They demanded racial equality and were not intimidated by systemic institutional racist barriers to attain it. Many of its members were targeted by the police and imprisoned for their demands of greater racial equity in American society. The group is considered to be among the most important political movements in African American history.
