The Auto Routes guide wascompliments of the Berkshire Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Pittsfield, Mass., andwas distributed by the Hotel Wendell in Pittsfield., a lovely elegant hotelserving a clientele that could easily afford to “motor” around a region as longas they had a booklet of auto routes like this one.
This14-page booklet offered the best autoroutes from Pittsfield to Albany NY;, Greenfield, Mass;
Manchester , Vt.; New York City; Springfield,Mass.; Troy, NY, Waterbury, Conn., and Greylock Mountain. The booklet measuresabout 9 x 4.5.
It’s 100 years old and it’sa little dirty and the pages of worked their way away from the staples but allthe pages are there (in case you might like to follow the directions someautumn day).
