Well...I really didn't know what this brass ornament was used for, so i turned to Wikipedia, and here's their entry:"A horse brass is a brass plaque used for the decoration of horse harness gear, especially for shire and parade horses. They became especially popular in England from the mid-19th century until their general decline alongside the use of the draft horse, and remain a collectors item today." So apparently, these became wildly popular around 1880, and have remained so, across the pond. There's even a National Horse Brass Society of England. This particular plaque features a profile of William Shakespeare, Stratford on Avon" and is in good, age-related condition.
The plaque is approx. 2 5/8" across x 3" long.
