The shirt is Men's Size L/G 42-44 measuring 20 1/2 inches pit-to-pit and 25 inches from the top of the collar to the waist. This vintage, iconic shirt promoted the Direct Action Committee for the Youth International Party and is from the mid-to-late 1970s. This shirt is from a private collection from one of the founding members of the YIP chapter on the campus of the University of Houston (along with Texas Tech in Lubbock, both were the only college chapters in Texas). The Marijuana Leaf over the Red Star logo is emblematic of the party's flag, which was founded by Abbey Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, and others in 1968. The YIP remained active in politics through to the Reagan as the group helped organize the Rock Against Reagan tour during the 1984 election cycle. This iconic YIP shirt is uncommon in this condition.
